PPC would like to congratulate Desjardins Healthcare Group on receiving the distinction of being named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies in 2008.
Desjardins Healthcare Group, which is made of up Ontario Medical Supply, Pharmacie Desjardins and Nova Medical, is based in Ottawa and has been managed by three generations of the Desjardins family. The Group provides healthcare products such as wheel chairs and other mobility devices and owns retail and wholesale pharmacies, providing products and services to long term care facilities and retirement homes.
During the past year, the Desjardins Healthcare Group’s sales have increased by 25% and profitability increased by 18%. An impressive track record, which Desjardins’ management feels is the result of having a strong corporate philosophy.
“I answer to my clients and employees,” says Jean Desjardins, managing partner of Desjardins Healthcare Group. “My philosophy is that managers work for their employees. If I do my job it means I’ve given my employees the support and tools they need for their jobs. In turn they will satisfy customer needs. That’s how we work it from top to bottom.”
About Canada’s Best Managed Companies
Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. Every year, since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. The awards are granted on three levels: 1) Best Managed winner (one of the 50 new winners selected each year); 2) Requalified member (repeat winners retain the Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review); 3) Platinum Club member (winners that maintain Best Managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years). Program sponsors are Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National Post, and Queen's School of Business. For further information, visit www.canadas50best.com.
