The first women’s only pharmacy in North American opened its doors on Tuesday July 7 in Vancouver’s downtown Eastside.
Lu’s, named after a longtime volunteer for the Vancouver Women’s Health Collective Lucette Hansen, is aimed at providing female-oriented services to women who live and work in the neighborhood.
Women can visit the pharmacy to have their prescriptions filled and to consult a female pharmacist about their health in a way that makes them feel comfortable and safe. Starting in September, clients can look forward to a nurse practitioner on site to offer primary care.
In the future, Lu’s pharmacy hopes to expand by offering support groups for addictions and possibly, with the help of other women oriented organizations, delivering more programs from their location.
