Accredited Continuing Education Programs for Pharmacy Technicians Announced

An agreement to accredit continuing education programs for pharmacy technicians commencing November, 2007 has been announced by The Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians (CAPT) and the Canadian Council on Continuing Education in Pharmacy (CCCEP).

“CCCEP accreditation is recognized as a symbol for quality learning. It assures that the program is relevant to practice, is a quality learning experience, is bias free, and that the content reviewed by experts in the field,” stated Gary Meek, president of CCCEP.

“Professional development through continuing education is becoming even more important for Pharmacy Technicians in Canada” said Tim Fleming, President of CAPT. “Pharmacy Technicians are assuming greater responsibilities with the changes that are occurring in pharmacy across the country.”

The logo above, a combination of the CCCEP accredited logo and the CAPT logo, will be used to indicate programs that are accredited for pharmacy technicians. The program submission process will only differ from programs for pharmacists in one respect - Pharmacy Technicians will be the Learning Panel Reviewers for the programs.
